VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TREE PLANTING EVENT

09/03/21

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Volunteers Needed for Community Tree Planting Event In Armada on Saturday, September 25th

September 1, 2021 – Armada, MI -- ReLeaf Michigan, a statewide non-profit tree organization, in partnership with the Village of Armada, Armada Township, and the DTE Foundation is looking for volunteers to help plant 44 trees in Armada on Saturday morning, September 25th from 8:45 AM – 1:00 PM. The planting is being done to begin replacing some of the several hundred mature trees lost in a tornado earlier this summer.

COVID protocols are in place and will be followed. Masks and social distancing are recommended. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a shovel and work gloves if they have them. The group will meet at Armada Area Schools Administration Building, 74500 Burk St., Armada, MI 48005 at 8:45 a.m. to sign-in, enjoy refreshments, and watch a planting demonstration with ReLeaf Michigan’s tree experts.

Event occurs rain or shine. No planting experience is necessary. Join us for the morning and leave an environmental legacy that will add to the beauty of your community for generations. Families welcome!
Trees provide incredible benefits to the communities in which they are planted. Trees improve air and water quality, reduce stormwater runoff, improve mental wellness, reduce rates of childhood asthma, cool our neighborhoods and enhance the commercial and economic vitality.

ReLeaf Michigan, a 33-year-old non-profit organization, partners with communities statewide to replenish community tree canopies through volunteer tree planting events. The DTE Foundation is a strong steward of the environment and over the past 25 years has spent over $1.7M to plant over 50,000 trees and seedlings in more than 660 communities across the state of Michigan.

STATE OF OUR COMMUNITY

07/29/21

As everyone one knows we have suffered severe damage from a tornado. The tornado was deemed an EF1 by the national weather service it landed at Armada Ridge between 34 mile and True rd at 7:54pm it moved north east from there. It was 700 yards wide and had wind speeds of up to 105 miles an hour and traveled to Florence and Omo rd. It lifted at 8:08pm. DTE started arriving Saturday night and remained on site until yesterday evening. DTE contracted with Kappen tree service because of the large volume of trees that had to be removed so power lines could be restored. As of this morning Kappen tree service is working in the village area under contract with the village to complete the tree removal. I have signed a contract with Kappen as well but they will not be able to start cleaning the trees outside of the village until Monday or Tuesday next week. The tree removal will be for the tornado strike zone only and the smaller limbs and clutter will not be removed. They will clear any trees that they can reach with their equipment that pose a safety risk of falling or damaging power lines. They will also remove the trees that have been placed by the road. We will do our best to get our community back in somewhat of a normal environment.

Thank you in advance,
